Brown Girls Rock (BGR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth development organization aimed at empowering Brown girls to visualize their bright futures and potential through developing healthy lifestyles both physical and mental, innovation, and social change in their communities and homes.
Mission – Our mission is to improve the lives of Brown girls through providing education and resources for self love, self care, self esteem building, mental health, and physical fitness. BGR's mission is grounded in research, focus group findings, and personal experiences highlighting the under-served and underrepresented needs of young Brown girls.
Here at Brown Girls Rock, we want our girls to learn how to be young, respectable ladies. This begins with self love, self confidence, and self esteem building. In addition, we educate our girls on proper manners and etiquette to include table manners and speaking properly. We also teach our girls the importance of physical and mental health as a part of their self care routine.
Brown Girls Rock Fest is all about celebrating and empowering the lives of brown skin girls.
All are welcome to attend this event where we showcase talents and entrepreneurship of brown skin girls and women. The most important component of the festival are the educational break out sessions where girls between 3-17 learn about self love, self care, physical and mental health, and self esteem.
The festival is held in July of every year.
The Cynthia Marie Scholarship Award is awarded to the Brown Girls Rock, Inc Ambassadors & Members who are graduating high school and continuing on to college despite their own traumas, tribulations, and trials.
Cynthia Maria is the late mother-in-law of our founder, Dr. Shareeda Tyaire. Cynthia hailed from Wilmington, Delaware where she became a mother during her teenage years. She then continued on, despite traumatic circumstances, and attended college. Cynthia graduated with her Masters degree in Human Services prior to her passing in 2007. The Cynthia Marie Scholarship was created in her honor. The award is given at the Brown Girls Rock Summer fest in July of each year.
